MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. It is a standardized attachment system originally developed for military use that has been adopted across tactical and law enforcement applications because it solves a genuine operational problem: the need to configure equipment loadouts differently for different assignments while maintaining a single base platform.
How MOLLE Works
The MOLLE system consists of rows of standardized webbing sewn to a base platform, spaced at consistent intervals. Accessories designed to the MOLLE standard use a weave-through attachment that passes through the webbing rows in a specific pattern, creating a secure connection that does not rely on snaps or hooks. The resulting attachment is secure under physical stress, allows accessories to be repositioned at any compatible point on the webbing grid, and can be removed and reattached without tools.
The standardization of the webbing spacing and attachment mechanism means that MOLLE-compatible accessories from one manufacturer can attach to MOLLE-compatible platforms from another.
